Procedures to Improve the Health & Function of Your Smile
Oral surgery procedures involve the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects in the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws.
While our team at Big Bay Dental always prefers to use the least invasive treatment possible, there are times when oral surgery is necessary.
Whether you need a bone graft, dental implant, wisdom tooth extraction, or frenectomy, our dentists can provide the care you need to help resolve your dental issue and set you on the path to improved oral health.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that functions like a natural tooth root. Our dentists place dental implants as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and assist in restoring your smile. When paired with a crown, bridge or denture, dental implants can look and feel very natural.
Tooth Extractions
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the alveolar bone. Our Barrie dentists perform extractions for a variety of reasons, but we most often extract teeth that are beyond the point of repair as a result of tooth decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If the wisdom teeth are causing pain or issues for other teeth, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.
Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts
A bone graft adds extra tissue to your jawbone, making it strong enough to support a dental implant. A sinus lift is a type of bone graft performed on the upper back jaw to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area to place a dental implant.
Gum Grafts
A gum graft involves taking gum tissue from the roof of the mouth and transplanting it onto another area of the gums. This procedure can be performed to cover exposed tooth roots, repair receding gums, and reduce associated symptoms such as severe tooth sensitivity or tooth loss.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is performed to remove a frenum that is restricting the normal movement of the tongue. Our dentists perform frenectomies for babies, children and adults when this small piece of skin is causing issues commonly referred to as tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied.
